Chill… There Will Be A Tomorrow

It’s important to start prepping for it today however, and millions of young people have all hope for the future pinned on what we, business, are doing today to make their tomorrow something to look forward to.

When we launched Slenky’s first test platform in 2012, we set out to try to get an understanding of how the young people we wanted to serve were, for the first time, using their own tablets and smartphones in the search for information. Amongst the mass of truly unique insights gained, was that the search terms were tightly-based on the common language of the audience, and dominated by their Passions.  In some ways it could be looked at as a search for themselves in tomorrow’s world.

These same terms, applied to successful Google searches for information didn’t result in opportunities to engage with businesses relevant to their Passions.  The bug in this was that businesses were actively looking for them, but sadly still using more traditional channels and messaging that most young people wouldn’t even understand, particularly those from less-connected communities.  We tested how new connections could be made.

Using what we were learning from users, we were making Slenky increasingly responsive to their passion search whilst connecting them with businesses and opportunities across the country.

When we launched the second test platform in 2017, we wanted to understand how to help businesses engage with social audiences from national right down to a local level, helping them to deliver anything from workplace diversity to digital skills.  We also wanted to help them communicate something very important to this audience about their brand – Values and Purpose, creating new access to online social channels and communities interested in knowing more than the product or service they sold or provided.

We wanted to create a digital product for young people and business alike, at a time when social media and content was, to many organisations, a terrifying new addition to modern living.  You participated in our testing, whether on platform as a user or business, or sharing Slenky content in your networks.

Your participation helped us learn how to digitally, and socially, connect opportunities and sectors in young audiences; the audiences driving social content as a source of relevant information and news.

Slenky 3.0 brings together the testing, the learning, the dead ends and green pastures that we’ve worked on to serve both our users and business partners.  Whether it’s young people trying to explore a Passion, or a tech business trying to engage young women, Slenky’s web and mobile platform supports all of them.  And we’re only just approaching the start line.

So To The Original Point - There Will Be A Tomorrow 

Young people have their hopes resting on business. Slenky entered 2020 naming it the ‘Digital Decade’ one where life would shift momentously, digitally.  Covid-19 arrived and its thrust zoomed even my elderly mother to a digital lifestyle in no time; “I can hear you, can you hear me…?”

It’s essential now that we extend our field of vision to the future, creating opportunities that engage young people and help them find themselves in tomorrows’ world.  Digital was already essential to them, so it’s essential now for business become digitally accessible to them.  They’ll not roll back on tech.
